PFAS are a family of thousands of synthetic chemicals prized for repelling water, oil, and stains. They are also called 'forever chemicals' because they do not meaningfully break down — in the environment or in the body.
Where they hide
Any garment marketed as water-resistant, stain-resistant, or quick-dry may carry a PFAS finish. They are common in performance jackets, leggings, and 'technical' fabrics.
How to avoid them
Favor untreated natural fibers, be skeptical of repellency claims, and look for explicit PFAS-free or certified-organic labeling. BODA does not use PFAS finishes — ever. If a piece needs a forever chemical to function, we do not make it.
